Our client -who is already in the food services, is starting a new food production company and they are looking for a:
Senior/Principal Food Scientist/Engineer m/f
Candidates are welcome from a Food Science or Food Chemistry or Food Engineering or Biotechnology background or something related.
But, you must have the required experience and be able to function in a food production start-up.
There are no funding issues to worry about and you must be able to work with people from all sorts of nationalities and cultures
You have experience in prolonging shelf life and understand HACCP
The Job – Title: Food Scientist
What is this role about?
- Conduct research to develop new food products and improve existing ones.
- Ensure products meet safety and quality standards.
- Guide client to get started, and get FDA certification and plan a roadmap to future development
- Provide guidance on food safety, hazard prevention, shelf life, storage, environmental standards and maintenance.. etc- ideally you have HACCP certification or equivalent
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, production, and quality assurance.
- Stay updated with industry trends and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in jarred sauces, dry spices, cereals, and bread spreads is a plus.
- Understand food-grade packaging from glass to plastic included
The Details / Key Responsibilities:
- Technology Management: Lead optimal usage of all machinery and other technologies, both physically and processwise.
- Ensure that all production outputs and processes meet high-quality standards and align with proposed cost- efficiency measurements
- Research & Innovation: Conduct research on all products to understand the properties and potential implications on food safety, self-life, etc while identifying opportunities for both innovation and product improvement
- Process Optimization: guide the optimization of the whole product lifecycle based on product and market requirements, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
- Technical Support: If and when applicable, provide technical support to clients
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all product and manufacturing/production aspects comply with relevant food safety and regulatory standards, maintaining accurate documentation and records.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with business development and production teams to align product development with business strategies and market demands.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in food science, applying new knowledge to drive continuous improvement in our technology’s applications.

Qualifications:
- Degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD is a plus.
- 5-10+ years experience in food product development and quality control.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – especially related to product formulation, texturization, and attribute improvement.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Zero-to-one thinking: Demonstrated capability to shape concepts from start to outcome, especially for new product and category launches.
- History managing projects, including rapid iterative development programs.
- Prior experience with launching new products or categories is strongly preferred.
- Experience with owning and shaping a product in prior roles is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of food science principles, sensory evaluation techniques, and regulatory requirements.

Location
The Company is based near Osu but as they buy new machinery and grow, they will move to a big industrial facility in Accra (nooo Tema)
Salary + Benefits
The Target Base Salary for this role is between 6.000 and 20,000 net – depending on your experience, education, professional qualifications, etc.
